Product Information - GT RUST CONVERTER for corrosion protection

GT RUST CONVERTER

Using WATER in the fight against RUST.

In an area of technology where chemical solutions are the norm, GT RUST CONVERTER uses pure water. The white GT RUST CONVERTER solution is also free from lead, chromates and similar toxic materials. It is normally applied by brush or paint roller, but it can also be sprayed by simply diluting with clean water (maximum 10% water addition). Used brushes and spraying implements can be rinsed clean with water as long as GT RUST CONVERTER has not dried.

7036 GT RUST CONVERTER - conquers RUST and gives permanent protection

Brush away loose rust particles, clean off grease or oil and apply GT RUST CONVERTER evenly onto rusted area. GT RUST CONVERTER is also effective when applied to damp rust. For airline spraying (0.8 to 1.5 mm nozzle size) GT RUST CONVERTER can be diluted with 10% clean water. Airline pressure 2 to 3 atmospheres. Hand spraying is possible with 0.3 to 0.4 mm nozzle size.

The solids content of GT RUST CONVERTER is so high that one coat is generally sufficient. In the case of deeper rusting, a second or even third coat may be applied up to a total thickness of 0.10 to 0.12 mm. It is essential that each coat or layer is dry before the next application. Extensive independent test reports indicate that one GT RUST CONVERTER layer of only 0.1 mm thickness passed salt spray tests to DIN 53 167 and DIN 50 021 for 500 hours without corrosion. In practice, paints which protect against corrosion are classified as "good" to "very good" if they obtain results of between 120 and 240 hours.

GT RUST CONVERTER is white in colour as it is being applied and gradually turns black as it slowly penetrates the rust. GT RUST CONVERTER is effective in the temperature range of +4 to +40 C. For best results, apply at temperature of between 15 and 28 C. Drying time at 20 C is approximately 24 hours. At low temperatures or very high humidity however drying may take longer.

The dried GT RUST CONVERTER layer can be painted with no further preparation. In the case of paints and varnishes which take a long time to dry or which contain a high level of solvents, 7045 GT Zinc Spray should be used as a middle layer to prevent the GT RUST CONVERTER coating from dissolving.

Store at room temperature. If liquid GT RUST CONVERTER freezes, its properties are nullified.

As long as the applied GT RUST CONVERTER remains white in colour, it may be washed off with water. Brushes and spraying equipment may also be washed out with water at this stage. When GT RUST CONVERTER has turned black, however, and the coating has combined with the rust, GT RUST CONVERTER can only be removed mechanically, eg by grinding.

If GT RUST CONVERTER is to be used on salted rust (ie on ships), the salt must first be washed off with pure water, otherwise it will hinder the chemical reaction of GT RUST CONVERTER.

GT RUST CONVERTER does not contain any hazardous substances. It is non-flammable and cannot be washed away when dry. GT RUST CONVERTER can therefore be applied to outdoor fixtures (eg rusted corrugated roofs) without the need for an additional covering. Paints and zinc coatings will not be adversely affected by GT RUST CONVERTER.
