GALV TECH ZINC STICK is, as the name suggests, a pure zinc repair stick without flux or alloyed metal content and free from lead. The primary function of this material is the repair of Hot-Dip Galvanized coatings fresh from the bath, whilst the galvanize coating is still molten. This product is particularly suited for covering small areas where the original has not taken well and for removing ash or other deposits. The necessity for flux may be determined by the user.
This material should not be mistaken for conventional "zilt" type "solders", which tend to have little or no zinc content and are usually high in lead, which raises concerns for health and safety during application procedures and is certainly environmentally questionable.
Supplied in packs of 5, at an average weight of 1kg/pack, the sticks are approx. 45cm (16") in length with a cross-section of approx. 6 - 8mm. The extra length of this product can also be of benefit when trying to maintain a reasonable distance from the workpiece.
It should be mentioned that the use of this material for site or subsequent repairs is not recommended as there is potential for damage to the original galvanizing from the necessary re-heating of the substrate.
